Blackjack rules

Players of Blackjack play against the dealer in a land based casino and online against the computer. A quick breakdown is first you make your bet, and next the player receives two cards face-up. The dealer also receives two cards but one card face-down and one card face-up.

Rules of the game:

  1. Before any cards are dealt to a player, they are required to place their specific bets.
  2. If your hand has a low value you are allowed to draw another card a couple of times until your hand shows a higher value. However always remember that if you exceed the number 21 you instantly lose the game. The player is allowed to double down - which means to double ones bet wile receiving an additional card that the player is allowed.
  3. If you have two cards of the same value, the player can split his hand in two. You can bet the same amount on both hands. Please do keep in mind though that it isn’t a good idea to split two 10’s if you have such cards, purely because this hand already holds an extremely high value.
  4. It is however a real good idea to split up aces.
  5. It is also a good idea to stand with a hand showing 17 should the dealer’s face-up card show less than 7.
  6. It’s a good idea that if the dealer has a hand of 16 or something less that the player takes another card, however if he has a hand of 17 or more, it is advisable to stand with it.
  7. If the dealer draws a card which brings about a value higher than 21, the dealer automatically loses this round.
  8. The player will win the same amount that he bet if the dealer should lose, that is if he bet say 10 dollars, he will receive an additional 10 dollars on top of that.
  9. If the player and the dealer end up with the same value in hand, the player will receive back the money he placed as a bet in that round – known as a push.

There is a chart known as the Blackjack chart, and it’s a good idea to get a hold of one and familiarise yourself with it.

The value of the cards in a pack: cards 2 through to 10 count their value as you see it, face cards however (King, Queen or Jack) count the value of 10 and an Ace equals the value of 11 or 1.
